Letters of Rainis and Aspazija in the Form of Dance. Performance ‘One and Two’

On October 29, at 19-00 and 21-00, the audience is invited to in Eduards Smiļģis Museum of Theatre to see performance of choreographer Olga Žitluhina and contemporary dance company ‘Outside’ or ĀRĀ, defined as poetic dance tragedy and titled ‘One and Two’, inspired by the love letters exchanged between poets Rainis and Aspazija, the creators of production informed.

Latvijas Pasts releases stamp block dedicated to 150th anniversary of Rainis and Aspazija

The first-day cancellation of the new stamps Rainis and Aspazija – 150 is to be held in the shopping mall “Galerija Centrs”, 16 Audēju Street, Riga, from 10 AM to 6 PM on September 11, 2015.

A special presentation event in honor of the Latvijas Pasts stamp block dedicated to Rainis and Aspazija, which is scheduled to start at 12:30 PM, will see the participation of Latvijas Pasts Chairman of the Board Arnis Salnājs, Managing Director of the Association of Memorial Museums Rita Meinerte, representatives of the Ministry of Culture and managing staff of Galerija Centrs.

First performance for musical-poetic concert production ‘Dagda’s Sketchbooks’

Celebrating the 150th jubilee of Rainis, on September 10, at 20-00, the first performance of new musical-poetic concert production ‘Dagda’s Sketchbooks’ will be presented in St. Peter’s Church, created by singer Ieva Parša, director Uģis Brikmanis, and musicologist Orests Silabriedis.

Premiere of works of eight Latvian composers will combine with readings of Rainis’ poems. The new compositions are created by composers belonging to several generations and known for quite varied creative style – Maija Einfelde (1939), Pēteris Plakidis (1947), Mārīte Dombrovska (1977), Gundega Šmite (1977), Andris Dzenītis (1978), Oskars Herliņš (1980), Santa Bušs (1981), and Jēkabs Jančevskis (1992).

From September 2 till September 14, the sash arcade of Gallery Centrs, on historic Rīdzene street (Audēju street 16, Riga Old Town) will hold the Association of Memorial Museums’ (AOMM) exhibition ‘Aspazija/Rainis: Rebel/Humanist. The Story of Two Latvian Poets.’

Exposition of this show was created honouring 150th jubilee of the great Latvian poet couple and made part of the program of public diplomacy and culture of Latvia’s Presidency of the Council of the EU.

Multimedia concert “Endures One Who Transforms” is organized by the orchestra “Riga”, conductor – Jānis Retenais, stage director – Varis Piņķis. Assisted by DJ Monsta (Uldis Cīrulis), poetry recordings of Rainis and Aspazija read by actress Gunta Zariņa and actor Ivars Puga .
